Its so easy to go into the cosmetic stand and get over whelmed. So heres just my guide to the basics, to make it some what easier.
For your makeup bag:
Primer:
A primer is essential for your makeup. You need to choose one that will suit your skin type, weather its water based or contains silicone, have one that will agree with you and your makeup. It will allow your makeup to last longer. What is a primer?
Example:
Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer

Foundation:
You want a foundation that again suits your skin and is the right tone for you. You and Your Foundation . Another decision is do you want a coverage with sheer, medium or full coverage? When choosing a foundation i suggest one that is your shade and the 3 shade up. If you get a tan you will want one that is darker so mixing your shade the 3rd shade will give you the 2nd shade and you can go as light or dark.
Example:
Revlon Colorstay

Blush, Contour & Highlight:
One my favourite things is Blush, contour and highlight. So once you get the right Matte Bronzer, the right Blush and your favourite Highlight, you cant go wrong. Matte is super important for a contour colour as you do not want sparkle as it will look muddy. A blush weather it is a pink, a coral or a peach, pick one that suits your skin tone. A highlight is optional, but I feel it makes the combo and a look. You can have a lovely frosted highlight that has either a champagne or pink hue.

Eye lash curlers and Mascara:
For them perfect fluttery lashes, an eye lash curler, to curl your lashes before you apply mascara is a great way to lift your eyes and seem awake and intensify your eyes. For the day a brown mascara is a great one and for the evening or night a black one, You can also get a clear mascara for that day at the beach or the holidays.
Example:
Lash curlers can be got in Primark/Pennys or any Pharmacy

Eye shadow palette:
Having a great palette that is versatile is great to have in your makeup bag. You can create a natural or smokey eye and have a shade for your brows. Very multi functional.
There are so many to choose from a Sleek palette, Urban Decay Naked Palette etc.

Setting Powder:
A setting powder is important to seal your foundation so it lasts longer. It also helps reduce shine . You can choose a pressed or loose powder, whichever works for you.

Lipstick:
Whether you decide on a smokey eye or natural eye, a look isnt complete without a lippy! I suggest a Nude, a Red shade and a fun shade like a pink, coral, purple or orange. They will top of your look and make a difference.
Examples:
Nude: Mac Creme D`Nude
Red: Russian Red
Fun: Girl About Town

Concealer:
Concealer is great for covering blemishes, helping them dark circles etc. It is important to have two in your bag a yellow and red/pink concealer. Yellow for your blemishes and red/pink for your under eye circles. You can choose a liquid or a cream.
Examples:

Optional: Setting Spray:
If you have problems with your makeup staying in place, then maybe think about a setting spray. A spray after you apply your foundation and after you powder will insure your foundation stick for hours. Great for them long days at work, a wedding or graduation.
