Galway Races Ladies Day Guide, To-Do List: Part 5 "The Day & Where to go?"

Hello Dolls,

Day 1 of the Galway Races has started as I am writing this. (Small fist pump and woop!)
So its exactly 3 days till the famous Ladies Day.
This will be my last post on this series, I really hoped you liked this or got some ideas.

In this post I wanted to share with you what the races will offer and some events and places to visit once you leave the racecourse. If your not from Galway it may give you some ideas to visit and whats on.

"The Galway Racecourse"

One advice I would give is get their as soon as possible, traffic will be mad the later you leave it. So plan your transport. To get into the racecourse it will cost €30 on Ladies Day itself. There will be such an atmosphere as soon as you get through the turnstiles.
Obviously besides the racing the other main event will be the Best Dressed Lady.

This year the Best Dressed Lady event is sponsored for the first time by the Kilkenny Group.
Their is also two other awards for Best Hat & Best Irish. The judges will wander around the crowds and pick you out to be brought to the Kilkenny tent adjacent to the Champagne tent. Finalists will be picked by 2.30pm and the winning outfits will be announced by 3.30pm. Prizes will be given out before the 5th race. This years Celebrity Judge is Today Show`s Galway native Maura Derrane.

The prize for the Best Dressed Lady will amount to a wopping €10,000. It includes:
A shopping spree with Kilkenny,
5* Luxury Break with Blue Book Ireland,
New wardrobe courtesy of Aideen Bodkin,
Irish jewellery by Maureen Lynch,
Bespoke trophy by Waterford Crystal,
€1,000 Haircare package from Peter Mark,
Cosmetic package at €1,000 from Lancome

(I really would not mind that prize.. ;) ..)

If you are looking for inspiration, last years winner 2014, Helen Murphy wore:
A mint Green skirt and White top from Coast,
Aisling Maher coloured pearl necklace and white disc embellished with brooches from Dunnes Stores. Plus a 1950`s vintage Walborg clutch and shoes from Nine West.

picture from Galway races website

So what about the racing....what races will take place that day? Well here you go!!..

1.50: The Guinness Dublin Porter Beginners Steeplechase
2.20: The Guinness Novice Steeplechase
3.00: The Hop House 13 Handicap
3.40: The Arthur Guinness European Breeders Fund Corrib Fillies Stake
4.15: The Guinness Novice Hurdle
4.55: The Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap *The Big One the Day*
5.35: The Guinness 50th Anniversary Handicap
6.05: The Guinness West Indies Porter Flat Race

Best of luck to you all betting, remember their are independent bookmakers and tote bookmakers on the racecourse, so it worth a €1 or €2... :)

Another part of the races is the socialising. Who doesnt love the craic and bants? So where is the places to be or what has the Galway racecourse to offer?

Ideas for Valentines Day..

Hello!!!

So have you, your Valentines Day or Night sorted?
Well, I have decided to do a post on things to do with your loved one on this day.
I think sometimes you need inspiration for the day.

"DAY TIME"

Dublin Zoo!

I know your thinking! Dublin Zoo, really? Yes really. Dublin Zoo have come up with an amazing idea to do during the day of Valentines day. If you are an early bird and love something different. Well they are offering a DATE MORNING. So what is this about??

This is with a difference. Dublin Zoo will open there doors early morning for the special couples to have a breakfast to remember.
This is open for Valentine Day Feb 14th and the day after Feb 15th.
You will collected a beautifully prepared picnic basket full of breakfast goodies, for you and your partner to enjoy that morning. Lay back and relax and listen to the early morning sights and sounds of the animals in their habitat. A special zoo keeper will do talks on the courtship, partnership and exotic rituals of their animals. When you leave you will get a romantic goody bag and souvenir key ring as memory of their visit and experience.
This is open to 100 couples at €65 a couple. Times to entre is between 8-9.30am and picnic can be collected in Haughton House from 9-10am.
An unusal experience and a lovely idea.
You can buy tickets HERE .

Afternoon Tea!!

If you both have to work that day or one of you is, why not plan your lunch around each other. Maybe a spot of tea. Alot of hotels do afternoon tea and can be relaxing whether you have a cup of tea or a glass of pink bubbly.
I liked Galway`s G Hotel for afternoon tea.

A gorgeous unique boutique hotel. Really feels luxurious and special. A lovely treat for your other half and all year around. You will get to indulge in fresh made pastries, fresh fruit scones and jams, finger sandwiches, sweet bites and all on a lovely presented stand.
With Tea and Coffee it is €42 for 2 people or if you want some bubbles, pink to be exact it is €59 for 2 sharing.
Served Mon-Fri 3-6 and Sat/Sun/Bank Holidays 12-6.
A great alternative if you are not into the hype of dinner and date nights on the day. Relaxing and fun .
Here is the G Hotel for Details...>>Click Here<<

"NIGHT TIME"

Dinner Time

If like me you love to go out for a meal and love food! This is a great idea. If you are both away during the day or just dont feel like cooking then eating out with a few drinks is ideal.
I personally will be eating out Valentines weekend and enjoying it with himself.
Here are some places I think are worth checking out..

Riverbank Restaurant Dromahair, Co. Leitrim
I personally love this restaurant and eat here regularly in their bar the Clubhouse Bar. Last year I enjoyed a Valentines meal here and enjoyed everything. This year they are offering a 7 course meal for €80 a couple. That is a glass of Kir Champers, Soup, Sharing Starter, Sorbet, Choice of Mains, Dessert to share, Tea/Coffee and Petit Flours.
I think it a lovely set meal and great for your loved one you want to spoil. Here is a look at their menu.. >>Click Here<<

Westwood Hotel, Galway
A great 3 course menu with a glass of prosecco on arrival. I love the feel and comfort of the hotel. I have visited with family many times for bar food and restaurant food and weddings and love it. For €29.95 per person. A lovely meal to treat someone.
You can download and view the menu >Here<

GET AWAYS

If you are lucky to have the weekend or day off. Why not whisk your loved one away on a weekend or one night break. Take a change of scenery and rekindle the love!
I always love spending a night or two away to recharge and enjoy a new place and try new places to eat. Here are just some deals and places I love...

Castle Dargan Golf Hotel and Wellness
Located in Ballygalwey Co. Sligo. Just 10mins from Sligo town. A beautiful open 4 Star Hotel. Castle Dargan are offering a Nights B& B and Dinner with a bottle of bubbly placed in your room on arrival. You will also arrive to Petals on your bed and Complimentary room service for breakfast. You can enjoy this offer by >Clicking here<
There menu whether you are staying and availing of the dinner offer or popping in that night is lovely too. 5 Course for €35 per person and free if taking the overnight stay offer. You will also get a glass of bubbly!
Here is there menu >Menu<

Redcastle Hotel
Located in Redcastle, Co. Donegal. I visited here a year ago and loved the ambiance of the place. Located right on the shores of Lough Foyle, your view from your room and the restaurant is breathtaking.
You can spend a night in this 4 star hotel with 1 night b&b with dinner and champers with your meal. Heres where to book your getaway >Here<

MOVIE NIGHT!!

Movie Buffs or just want a simple night out. Cinema nights are great.
Here are my top 3 movies to see..

50 Shades of Grey
Okay , Okay I know very obvious. But maybe its on your wishlist. Weather your man goes and wants to go, it is a must see movie this year. Time to see what the fuss is about. Coming to cinemas from Feb 13th! Starring Jamie Doran.

American Sniper
I have heard this is a great film. An emotional movie on war and family life, Bradley Cooper is in this and all I keep hearing is great reviews, on my wishlist right now.

Wild
Starring Reese Witherspoon. An easy movie to watch and movie following the characters rebirth of herself. If you dont want action or romance then maybe check this one out.

NIGHT IN!

If you fancy cooking for your loved one alot of supermarkets are doing great deals to help you create the right meal and ambiance for your dinner in for two.

Most supermarkets do a Starter, Main, Dessert, Sides and Wine for two. Shop around to get your perfect meal!

What are your plans for the Valentines weekend?
